Former Residence of Zhang Yinghan

The former residence of Zhang Yinghan is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The former residence of Zhang Yinghan is located on Haifeng Street, Wudi County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty. It is situated on the east side of Haifeng Road in the old town area of Wudi County, directly across the street from the former residence of Wu Shifen. Zhang Yinghan (1753–1830), also known by his courtesy name Yunpu, was a native of Chengli Village, Haifeng County (present-day Chengli Village, Wudi Town, Wudi County) in the Qing-era Haifeng County. He passed the imperial examination as a Juren (recommended man) in the 44th year of the Qianlong reign (1779), and became a Jinshi (presented scholar) in the 49th year of the Qianlong reign (1784). In April of the 16th year of the Jiaqing reign (1811), he was appointed as the Governor of Huguang. In April of the 25th year of the Jiaqing reign (1820), Zhang Yinghan was promoted to the Governor-General of Huguang. In the 26th year of the Jiaqing reign (1821), upon imperial decree, he was transferred inland to serve as the Right Vice Minister of the Ministry of Punishments. In August of the same year, he was reassigned as the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Revenue in charge of the Granary. Zhang Yinghan passed away at the age of 78. He left behind an extensive body of written work, including the 12-volume Commentary on the Mao Anthology of Poetry, the 8-volume Rhyme Study of the Mao Anthology, the 4-volume Disciples’ Guide to Rhyme Studies, 30 volumes of Memorials, and several volumes of poetry manuscripts. The residence covers an area of 12 mu, and originally included halls, chambers, studies, and rooms. Today, six rooms remain, consisting of three main halls, three gatehouse side rooms. It features a brick-and-timber structure supported by raised beams. In November 2002, it was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit. In January 2009, it was announced as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Binzhou City. In October 2013, it was listed as part of the fourth group of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Shandong Province.
