The Hanjiayao Site

The Hanjiayao Site is located 4 kilometers east of Hegou Village, Difeng Subdistrict Office, Wudi County, on the north side of National Highway 205. In the autumn of 1988, an ancient well was discovered when soil was being excavated at the brick kiln in Hanjia Village. Artifacts unearthed included stone rammers, stone mills, fragments of red pottery, rope-patterned gray pottery, black pottery, and a white pottery fish-shaped painted plate. Approximately 1 kilometer northeast of the well, another ancient kiln site was found, shaped like a horizontal oval with five kiln openings and surrounded by layers of red-fired earth and ash. Within a 2-kilometer radius, fragments of red and black pottery are scattered, believed to be part of the late Shang culture. In November 2002, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage protection unit by the People’s Government of Wudi County.
