Bell and Drum Tower Ruins

The Bell and Drum Tower Ruins are a cultural heritage site protected by Wudi County.

The Bell and Drum Tower Ruins are located on the city wall at the southeastern corner of the old town area in Wudi County. They were built in 1357 (the 17th year of the Zhi Zheng era during the Yuan Dynasty). This single-eaved, city-gateway-style structure features green-tiled roofing and upturned eaves reaching into the sky. A bronze bell once hung inside the tower and served as the timekeeping and night watch device for successive county governments. The bell tower was destroyed in the early years of the Republic of China, leaving only the 10-meter-high base. In April 1986, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Wudi County. It was restored and rebuilt in 1991.
