Huijin Lake

Covering an area of 3,300 mu, Huijin Lake has an annual water regulation capacity of 23.8 million cubic meters, with a total investment of 65.3873 million yuan. The scenic area consists of a dam, an intake pump station, a spillway tunnel, a water supply tunnel, and a red lotus viewing area.

Spanning over 500 mu, this is one of the larger areas in Dezhou with superior wetland landscapes and prime lotus viewing spots. It is a highlight along the “Dezhou–Xiajin” tourist route and complements the Xiajin Old Course of the Yellow River Forest Park.

— Located in the center of the lake, covering an area of 300 square meters, there are two classical-style pavilions built here. One stands in the water, named 不染 (Unstained); the other on land, named 清涟 (Clear Ripples). The Unstained Pavilion features a hip-and-gable roof with overhanging eaves and is surrounded by corridors supported by six pillars. The Clear Ripples Pavilion is a double-layered, four-cornered pavilion with cascading eaves. Both pavilions are adorned with colorful glazed tiles. Their names are derived from the famous line in Zhou Dunyi’s “Ode to the Lotus”: “Emerging from the mud yet unstained, bathed in clear ripples yet not vulgar,” praising the noble and self-disciplined nature of the lotus.

Sunset over the lake, moonlight on the lake, fishermen singing at dusk, and snow-like reeds flying in the wind are the distinctive sights of the Huijin Lake scenic area. The area around Huijin Lake is home to a variety of water birds, including egrets, cranes, ducks, grebes, mallards, and mandarin ducks. Countless birds dance gracefully, while the lake surface echoes with birdsong, resembling a kingdom of birds.
