Jiulongkou Wetland Water Conservancy Scenic Area

The Jiulongkou Wetland Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area and a national wetland park.

The Jiulongkou Wetland Water Conservancy Scenic Area in Xiajin County, Shandong Province, is located in Xiajin County, Dezhou City. It covers a planned area of 2.46 square kilometers, including 2.12 square kilometers of water bodies and water conservancy facility land. Relying on the Jiulongkou Wetland, the scenic area integrates wetland conservation, wetland education, and the display of modern water management culture, highlighting the harmony between humans and water, and promoting the ecological civilization of water.

The Jiulongkou Wetland Water Conservancy Scenic Area boasts unique tourism resources. The area features diverse types of wetlands and abundant biological resources, including 177 species of wild vascular plants from 129 genera and 56 families, and 109 species of vertebrates from 81 genera and 49 families across 25 orders, among which 12 are nationally protected bird species. The area has an intricate network of waterways, complete with reservoirs, the main canal of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and artificial water control facilities such as flood discharge channels, fully showcasing modern water management concepts. The winding wooden boardwalks, swaying reed marshes, elegant lotus flowers, and charming landscape features create breathtaking scenery that captivates visitors.

In the past two years, through projects such as the dredging and renovation of the New Third Branch Canal, the partial artificial floating island water purification project on the Liuwu River, the landscape upgrade of the North City Water System Park, and the greening of Longhu Park, the area has developed a well-connected water system network with abundant water resources, comprehensive lake and river connectivity, and robust water storage and flood regulation functions. This has gradually established a "one belt, three zones" landscape layout. The scenic area has comprehensively and multi-dimensionally improved its supporting facilities, not only constructing infrastructure such as a management center, parking lots, and docks, but also building leisure and entertainment facilities like walking trails, leisure plazas, and water-friendly platforms, as well as offering experience-based activities such as fishing and wetland plant identification.

After its completion, the Jiulongkou Wetland Water Conservancy Scenic Area will achieve comprehensive utilization for flood control, irrigation, ecology, and tourism, based on its wetland functions. It will integrate organically with nearby attractions such as the "Ancient Yellow River Forest Park," "Huimengtai Ruins," and "Douwang Pointing Platform," becoming a leisure tourism destination that combines wetland education, recreation, and sightseeing experiences.

Approved as the 15th batch of National Water Conservancy Scenic Areas in November 2015, and as a National Wetland Park in 2014.
