Shenjiazhuang Bell Tower

The Shenjiazhuang Bell Tower is a cultural relic protection unit of Jinan City.

The Shenjiazhuang Bell Tower is located to the northwest of the former site of Shenjiazhuang Village in Wujia Bao Town, Huaiyin District, Jinan City. Originally, there was a land temple in Shenjiazhuang facing west and situated to the east. After the temple collapsed, only the bell tower remains today. This bell tower is a stone structure, designed in the form of a four-pillared pavilion with a hip-and-gable roof, and is relatively well-preserved. It has a square floor plan, and its foundation is buried underground. On the platform stand four square stone pillars, each 1.8 meters high, with chamfered edges and a width of 0.33 meters. The outer edge of the two pillars measures 1.8 meters, and the platform covers an area of approximately 7.64 square meters. At the top of the four pillars are horizontal stone beams. The south-facing beam is inscribed with the characters “声大远闻” (Sound Carries Far and Wide), and the adjacent pillars bear a couplet that reads: “音传精舍，唤醒梦迷人；响镇梵宫，惊醒名利客” (The sound reaches the meditation hall, awakening those lost in dreams; the chime resonates in the temple, startling those chasing fame and fortune). The roof of the bell tower is constructed and assembled from several bluestone slabs, featuring a single-eave hip-and-gable roof. At both ends of the main ridge sit dragon-shaped ornaments, while the four eaves are carved with tile ridges, and the eave edges feature decorative tile ends and water spouts. According to local villagers, there is a buried stone lion beneath the bell tower. This bell tower is one of the better-preserved modern stone structures in Huaiyin District. Having withstood over a century of wind and rain, it still stands at its original location and serves as an important physical artifact for studying local folk religion and regional history. On December 20, 2013, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units by the Jinan Municipal Government.
