The Power Distribution Room Complex in Jinan's Commercial Port Area

The Power Distribution Room Complex in Jinan's Commercial Port Area is a cultural relic protection unit of Jinan City.

The power distribution rooms in Jinan’s Commercial Port Area are situated on the east side of the north gate of Zhongshan Park on Jingsan Road in Shizhong District, the west side of the north gate of Daguanyuan on Jingsi Road, the west side of the south gate of Shandong Film Distribution and Projection Company on Jingsi Road, the west side of the former site of De Fu Foreign Firm on Weisan Road, as well as the west side of the north gate of Shandong Provincial Posts and Telecommunications Equipment Company on Jinger Road in Huaiyin District, and the southeast corner of the intersection of Jingsan Road and Weiqi Road.

They were gradually established after Jinan had a unified urban power grid, all built during the Republican era. There are a total of two modern buildings among them, including the one located on the west side of the north gate of Shandong Provincial Posts and Telecommunications Equipment Company on Jinger Road and the one at the southeast corner of the intersection of Jingsan Road and Weiqi Road. These power distribution rooms feature diverse designs, all constructed with brick and stone structures—featuring rubble stone foundations at the lower part and mostly red bricks for the upper sections. Their architectural styles blend both Chinese and Western elements, with various roof forms such as pyramidal, flush-gable, mansard, double-pitched with transitions, and hip-and-gable roofs. The roofing is predominantly made of red tiles, and the architectural details are very refined. They are among the most distinctive types of buildings in the commercial port area and hold significant value for preservation. On December 20, 2013, they were designated by the Jinan Municipal Government as part of the fourth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units.
