The former site of the Jinan Hospital of the Japan-China Medical Association is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The former site of the Jinan Hospital of the Japan-China Medical Association is located at No. 324 JIngwu Road, Huaiyin District, Jinan City. Originally built in 1917, the building faces north and has between one to four stories. Its layout is roughly an open-ended “mountain” shape, covering a land area of 2,184 square meters with a construction area of 5,684 square meters. Entrances are situated at the southeast and southwest corners of the building, with partial stone-built basements. The exterior features a flat roof, with octagonal halls prominently rising from the roof at both the southern and northern ends of the central axis. The outer walls have rough stone bases, brick walls coated with cement stucco, and rectangular sliding wooden windows. The walls and windows are richly decorated with relief moldings, and each corner is accentuated with protruding stone brackets. In the early stages of the Anti-Japanese War, the main building of the hospital was burned down by Han Fuju, the then Chairman of Shandong Province under the Kuomintang, who fled the city. After the Japanese army occupied Jinan in 1938, restoration began, and the hospital was fully rebuilt by 1943. The current building is a reconstruction from that period, restored to its original design (with one additional floor added). Architecturally and decoratively, the building reflects an early modern style with Japanese influences that emerged after the Meiji Restoration in Japan.

All rooms in the building face south, ensuring ample sunlight and good ventilation, and offering superior medical conditions. The nurse station and other auxiliary facilities are centrally located for convenient service and rational layout. The flow of people within the building is very clear, with distinct functional zoning. As one of Jinan’s early mission hospitals, its establishment is closely tied to the power struggles between Germany and Japan in Shandong during the imperialist era. Aside from Qilu Hospital, it is another large medical facility in Jinan that featured comprehensive departments, advanced equipment, and high-level medical technology. It now serves as an office building for Shandong Provincial Hospital. On October 10, 2013, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the Shandong Provincial Government.
