The former site of the Jinpu Railway Bureau Jinan Machinery Factory is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The former site of the Jinpu Railway Bureau Jinan Machinery Factory is located at No. 31 Huai Village Street, Yingshi Street Subdistrict, Huaiyin District, Jinan City. It was first built in 1910 and officially put into production on April 1, 1913. The existing historic buildings mainly include five structures: the 1911 office building of the first German factory director, Dougmiri, Dougmiri’s residence, the senior staff apartments, a Japanese-style factory building, and a water tower. All exhibit typical Germanic architectural styles. The 1911 office building of the first German factory director, Dougmiri, is a two-story structure facing south, built with a stone-and-brick composite wall. It is 34.3 meters wide from east to west and 18.6 meters deep from north to south, covering an area of 638 square meters. The roof features red tiles in a four-sloped design, and the southern facade has a porch with a metal helmet-style roof, supported by two stone columns imitating Greek Doric style. The interior boasts exquisitely decorated doors, wooden staircases, and wooden floors. Dougmiri’s residence is a two-story wooden building with a large four-sloped tile roof, also facing south, and includes a semi-basement. The walls above the window sills are made of brick with a composite finish. It is 23.4 meters wide from east to west and 16.7 meters deep from north to south, covering an area of 390 square meters. To the east of Dougmiri’s residence lies the senior staff apartments, a brick-and-wood structure with a large two-sloped tile roof and skylights on the roof. This building also faces south and has a semi-basement. The lower walls are made of stone and brick with a composite finish. The southern side of the ground floor features an open-air corridor, while the second-floor corridor is enclosed as a balcony. This building is 23.8 meters wide from east to west and 14.2 meters deep from north to south, covering an area of 337 square meters. To the northwest of Dougmiri’s residence is a Japanese-style factory building, constructed with a brick, stone, and steel structure. It consists of two rows of interconnected single buildings that are internally linked, with a sawtooth-shaped roof and direct lighting windows on the façade. The building is 72 meters wide from east to west and 22 meters deep from north to south, with a construction area of 1,584 square meters. To the east of the Japanese-style factory building stands a 50-cubic-meter brick water tower, which is now out of use. Inside the tower are wooden stairs and floors, along with uniquely shaped features such as a concave curved sloped roof and elongated arched niches, reflecting the distinctive design concepts of the architects at the time. The Jinan Locomotive Factory of the Jinpu Railway Bureau was funded by German loans, designed, constructed, and supervised by Germans. The old buildings within the factory not only exhibit typical Germanic styles but also feature characteristics of early German industrial architecture. They are important representatives of Jinan’s 20th-century industrial heritage architecture, holding significant historical, artistic, and scientific value. On October 10, 2013, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Shandong Province.
