Jiang Taigong’s Fishing Platform in Nanpi

Among China’s ten most famous fishing platforms, the first is Jiang Taigong’s Fishing Platform, located 10 kilometers west of Nanpi.

In the late Shang Dynasty, King Zhou was debauched and tyrannical, and he ordered the construction of the luxurious Deer Terrace. The project was massive, exhausting the people and draining the treasury. Jiang Ziya, who held the lowly rank of Xiadaifu (junior official), dared to remonstrate openly, which enraged King Zhou. The king issued an order to arrest Jiang. Filled with indignation, Jiang fled and took refuge in this area. Here, the river flowed gently over cascades, reeds grew thickly, and birds made their homes. Jiang Ziya spent his days fishing here. Later, he was summoned by King Wen of Zhou, helped King Wu overthrow the Shang Dynasty, and was enfeoffed as the Marquis of Qi. This place has since been called Fishing Platform.
