Baima Temple

Baima Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Between Nansong Village and Zhoucun in Lügongbao Town, Renqiu City, there are three historic sites: "Luo Cheng’s Helmet," "Luo Cheng’s Tomb," and "Baima Temple."

Legend has it that General Luo Cheng of the Tang Dynasty was an extraordinarily brave warrior, especially with his white dragon horse, which understood human commands and could leap over ditches and ravines, making Luo Cheng even more formidable. In every battle against the Sui army, he always routed the enemy.

Even horses stumble, and riders can fall from their saddles. One summer, Luo Cheng led his troops into battle, but his army was defeated, leaving only a few dozen soldiers. Luo Cheng and his remaining men were trapped in Zhoucun, with heavy enemy forces guarding the east, south, and north sides of the village, while the west was a muddy river. To survive, they had to cross the river. Unfortunately, the groom was a coward. Seeing all was lost, he secretly poisoned the white dragon horse’s feed in order to save his own life. When Luo Cheng charged out on horseback, the poison took effect, and the horse struggled violently, nearly throwing Luo Cheng off. In the chaos, Luo Cheng’s helmet fell off. Without stopping to retrieve it, he urged the horse toward the river. But the poison was too strong, and the white dragon horse died in the river, with Luo Cheng and the horse soon swallowed by the mud and silt. Afterward, villagers claimed they could hear the white dragon horse’s cries at night, but within half a year, the sounds stopped altogether. People say the horse’s spirit went to avenge Luo Cheng.

To commemorate Luo Cheng and his loyal horse, the villagers built a temple on the riverbank where the horse drowned—this is “Baima Temple.”

Lügongbao Town: Located in the eastern part of Renqiu City, Lügongbao Town borders the Tianjin–Baoding Road, Lüwo Road, and Dahe Road, enjoying a superior geographical location and convenient transportation. The town governs 28 administrative villages, with a total population of 36,000 and covers an area of 53 square kilometers.
