Baiyangdian Qianli Dyke

Baiyangdian Qianli Dyke is located at the downstream eastern outlet of the lake, in Renqiu City, northwest of Cangzhou. It is the closest to downtown Renqiu, just 10 kilometers away. Baiyangdian is known as the "Pearl of North China." Covering a total area of 366 square kilometers, it is the largest freshwater lake in North China. Its beautiful natural scenery is distinct from that of vast lakes where water meets the sky and also different from mountain reservoirs where hills reflect on the water. The lake features villages within its waters, waters within villages, interconnected rivers and lakes, and crisscrossing fields and water surfaces that open and close intermittently. Ditches and reed marshes weave Baiyangdian into a huge water-bound maze. Qianli Dyke is 130 kilometers north of Beijing and 120 kilometers northeast of Tianjin. The water area spans 64.8 square kilometers, shaded by weeping willows, fragrant with blooming reeds and lotuses, teeming with fish and birds. The scenery changes with the seasons, each with its own charm: in spring, birds fly and fish leap; in summer, red lotuses emerge from the water; in autumn, reeds turn golden; and in winter, ice boats speed across the surface. It is an ideal destination for leisure and vacation.

Within the Qianli Dyke scenic area, there are attractions such as "Mist-Shrouded Willow Along the Long Dyke," "Evening Ferry Through the Jujube Grove," "Fragrance of Lotus Across Ten Miles," "Moonlit Baiyang Lake," "Peach Blossoms Over Water and Moon," and "Golden Sand at Sunset." Near the lake are the Muzhou Grand Temple and the Bianque Shrine.

Special Local Products

Baiyangdian boasts abundant produce. The lake has plentiful aquatic bait, with as many as 54 species of fish across 15 families. Qing shrimp, river crabs, and carp are especially famous and are considered delicacies on the dining tables of Beijing and Tianjin. The area produces large amounts of reeds, yielding up to 300 million jin annually. Reed mats woven from these reeds are as white as jade, with delicate texture, accounting for more than 1? of the national reed mat output, and were historically listed as tributes to the imperial court. Baiyangdian also offers tourist souvenirs such as brushes, black pottery, and reed-pasted paintings, which can be purchased in Renqiu and around the lake.
