The watchtower is a cultural heritage protection unit of Gaotang County.

The watchtower dates back to the Ming Dynasty and is located in Xulou Village, Liuli Temple Town, Gaotang County.

In May 2008, the watchtower was designated as a county-level cultural heritage protection unit.

Liuli Temple Town: Located southeast of Gaotang County, about 25 kilometers from the county seat, Liuli Temple Town borders Chiping County, Qihe County, and Yucheng City. It covers an area of 94.5 square kilometers, with arable land spanning 85,023 mu. The town administers 7 management areas and 62 administrative villages, with a population of 36,901, averaging 2.5 mu of arable land per person. The seat of the Liuli Temple Town government is situated east of Liuli Temple Village, which has served as the location for district, commune, township, and town governments since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The town lies on an alluvial plain, with the Tuhai River to the west and the Sixin River and Guanshi River flowing through it.
