Gaotang Memorial Square

Gaotang Memorial Square is located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Jincheng Road and Binhu Road in the Economic and Technological Development Zone of Gaotang County.

In May 2004, the county Party committee and government invested 5.69 million yuan to build the memorial square, which was completed in April 2005. The square covers an area of 4.7 hectares. The entire architectural layout of the square faces east from the west, with paved and green areas each accounting for half, divided into eastern and western sections. The eastern section is a leisure and entertainment area, while the western section serves as a revolutionary tradition education zone.

In the center of the square stands the Monument to the People's Heroes, inscribed with the eight large characters “The People’s Heroes Are Immortal.” The monument is 19.28 meters tall, symbolizing the Gaotang Guguantun Uprising that took place in 1928. The base of the monument is broad and sturdy, constructed from 960 pieces of granite, representing the total area of Gaotang County, which is 960 square kilometers. The base is divided into upper and lower levels, with white marble railings. The railing posts are carved with cloud patterns, and the panels feature relief carvings of plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, and chrysanthemums. Stone steps lead up to the monument on all four sides. Climbing the steps brings you to the base of the monument. On the east side of the base is engraved the national emblem, while the west side features the emblem of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. The north and south sides are adorned with reliefs of pine trees. On the open ground south of the monument stands a group sculpture about 3.15 meters high, carved from brown stone, depicting revolutionary heroes represented by Jin Gulan. To the north, corresponding to the sculpture, is a rectangular flower bed planted with weeping willows, symbolizing the immortality of the people’s heroes and expressing the people of Gaotang’s remembrance and reverence for the revolutionary martyrs.
