China's No. 1 Pear Garden is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

China's No. 1 Pear Garden Scenic Area is located in Hanlu Village, Lanwo Township, Guan County, Shandong Province, on the ancient course of the Yellow River at the junction of Hebei, Shandong, and Henan provinces. It is a national AAA-level scenic area, a national demonstration site for leisure agriculture and rural tourism, a provincial-level agricultural tourism demonstration site, one of Shandong Province’s most promising scenic areas, a Shandong Province model unit for trustworthy tourism, and one of the “100 Must-Visit Places in Shandong.”

This scenic area was established based on abundant natural pear tree landscapes and profound pear culture and humanistic landscape resources. Covering an area of 30,000 mu, including a premium garden of 500 mu, it is famed for its snow-like pear blossoms and sweet, delicious duck pears. It also boasts nearly 30 varieties such as Large Snowflake Pears, Autumn White Pears, An Pears, Red Early Pears, Five-Spice Flat Pears, Goose Pears, Snow Pears, and Green Gems. The pear trees here have the longest cultivation history, the most concentrated planting area, the oldest trees, the most diverse varieties, and the best conservation management in China—earning it the title of China’s No. 1. It is a vibrant highlight along the “Water City North of the Yangtze” tourism route.

China's No. 1 Pear Garden has a long history. Historical records indicate that as early as the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, Guan County’s duck pears were renowned far and wide. Century-old pear trees are scattered throughout the garden. In spring, pear blossoms bloom like piles of snow and jade; in summer, lush foliage spreads out like endless green waves; in autumn, the branches are heavy with fruit, filling the air with sweetness; and in winter, the elegant bare branches create poetic scenes, painting a magnificent natural picture.

The scenic area began development projects in 2005 and commissioned the Shandong Tourism Planning and Design Research Institute to create the overall master plan. A total investment of 37 million yuan was made to complete the first phase of the pear garden project. Following the principles of “enjoying flowers in spring, greenery in summer, fruit in autumn, and tree appreciation in winter,” as well as emphasizing “ecology, harmony, and refinement,” the area centers around the 360-year-old “King of Pear Trees.” It features 13 themed landscape units: Pear King Palace, Brotherhood Garden, Pear Fairy Residence, Herb Garden, Family Bond Garden, Flower Viewing Garden, Imperial Rest Garden, Auspicious Garden, Health Garden, Tribute Pear Garden, Forest Recreation Garden, Hanshu Temple Ruins, and Pear Variety Collection Garden. Among these, the Flower Viewing Garden includes a 16-meter-high, three-story Snow Viewing Platform, offering panoramic views of the vast pear gardens. A hundred-meter-long wooden walkway, like a rainbow, spans through the pear groves. Strolling along it, visitors feel as if they are walking amidst flowers with fruit hanging overhead, creating a fairy-tale-like experience that captivates the heart. The pear garden also includes facilities such as the Falling Petals Lake, teahouses, and farmhouse inns, enriching its recreational and cultural offerings.

To date, the pear garden has hosted ten Pear Garden Cultural Tourism Weeks and eight pear-picking garden tours, all achieving excellent results. Since the first Pear Garden Tourism Week, the number of visitors to Hanlu Village has averaged over 500,000 annually and continues to grow, generating total tourism revenue of 160 million yuan. These efforts have not only promoted the China's No. 1 Pear Garden Scenic Area but also significantly enhanced the visibility and reputation of Guan County.
