Guanxian West Street Mosque

The Guanxian West Street Mosque is a Shandong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Guanxian West Street Mosque is located on West Street in Guancheng Town, Guanxian County. Originally built in the third year of the Yongle era during the Ming Dynasty (1405), it was gradually expanded over time to reach its current scale. It is one of the earliest constructed and grandest mosques within Liaocheng City and is now a key cultural relic protection site of the city.

The mosque covers an area of 14 mu. It includes 30 main prayer hall rooms covering 449 square meters, as well as 28 rooms for the north and south lecture halls, east reception hall, ablution area, and gateway building, totaling 643 square meters. The surrounding wall is 314 meters in circumference. The entire architectural complex is well-proportioned, harmoniously arranged, brightly toned, solemn and dignified.

Inside the main gate of the mosque stands a tall screen wall. On both sides are latticed low walls and corner gates, with a plaque on the gateway building inscribed with “The Ancient Religion Opened by Heaven.” Directly opposite the main gate is a passageway hall, with two pillars inscribed with the couplet: “Dreaming all day, when will you wake? Running daily, when will you rest?” Under the old shelter of the main prayer hall at the northern end stands one stone stele, which is an inscription commemorating the mosque’s renovation during the Xianfeng era. Three stone steles stand at the southern end. Beneath the old shelter in front of the main prayer hall are three plaques: the central one inscribed with “The One True Islam,” the southern one with “Supreme Excellence,” and the northern one with “None Greater.” The central plaque in the reception hall reads “Upright Conduct and Righteous Learning,” the central plaque in the south lecture hall reads “Utmost Fairness and Law Abiding,” the north lecture hall plaque reads “All Things Turn to the True,” and the plaque in the ablution room reads “Renewed Daily.”

With its long history, magnificent architecture, and unique ethnic customs, the mosque not only attracts numerous Islamic faithful but also adds a splendid cultural landmark to Guanxian County in western Shandong.
