Guanxian Martyrs' Cemetery

Guanxian Martyrs' Cemetery is located on the north bank of the First Main Canal, on the north side of Binhe West Road in the urban area of Guanxian County.

The cemetery was first built in 1951, originally situated on the south dike of the First Main Canal in the northeast of the county town. In 1973, it was moved to its new location on Binhe West Road in Guanxian County, covering an area of 15 mu. The main gate was built in 1983, standing 5 meters high and 8 meters wide, and features a memorial archway-style brick-concrete structure, with four golden Chinese characters "Martyrs' Cemetery" inscribed horizontally above the center of the gate. There is an 80-meter-long cement flower-brick-paved path leading from the main gate to the Martyrs' Hall. On both sides of the path lie two paved plazas totaling 2,500 square meters, each featuring two hexagonal flower stands of 20 square meters. The cemetery has a circular cement walkway and is extensively landscaped with pine trees, cypresses, and various flowers, maintaining greenery all year round.

The Martyrs' Hall faces south and sits on a 0.8-meter-high platform, with a platform area of 912 square meters. Cement railings surround the platform. The Martyrs' Hall is built at the center of the platform, covering a construction area of 480 square meters, with a building height of 14 meters. It is a hip-and-gable roof-style structure featuring double-layered flying eaves, painted forked beams, and floral-patterned glass windows. Below the second-floor eaves, a gilded plaque inscribed with "Martyrs' Hall" is embedded in the center of the front facade. Inside the hall, eight white Chinese characters reading "The People's Heroes Live Forever" are inscribed on a black screen in the center. There are arched doorways on both sides. The right side of the hall displays a roster of more than 2,000 martyrs. Wooden cabinets on the east wall house portraits and urns of martyrs. The left room exhibits portraits and biographical introductions of notable martyrs.

In 1975, Guanxian Martyrs' Cemetery was designated as a county-level key protected martyrs' memorial building by the Guanxian County People's Government. Every year on Tomb-Sweeping Day, many students and members of the public visit to pay their respects, mourn the martyrs, and honor their memory. Many government agencies and enterprises also often choose the cemetery as the site for their oath-taking ceremonies for Party membership.
