Yanggu Haihui Temple

Yanggu Haihui Temple is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Haihui Temple complex of Qing Dynasty architecture is located in the southeast corner of Acheng Town, Yanggu County. Originally built during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty, it underwent two expansions and renovations during the Qianlong and Guangxu periods, forming a typical Qing-era architectural complex featuring majestic halls and continuous pavilions. It is one of the Five Great Temples of North China. The temple covers an area of 60,000 square meters and originally had 168 halls and pavilions, with only 81 remaining by 2001. It consists of various sections including the main hall, theater stage, stele pavilion, Thousand Buddha Pavilion, and Liu Ancestral Hall. The main structures are self-contained yet harmoniously integrated with the overall layout. The buildings adopt the traditional northern ethnic architectural style, featuring brick-and-wood structures with upturned eaves and dougong brackets. The temple still houses stone inscriptions, stone carvings, wood carvings, painted artworks, and poems handwritten by Emperor Kangxi. Thanks to renovations funded by the resident monks through donations, the temple has regained its former glory. Located by the ancient canal in Acheng Town, 25 kilometers east of Yanggu County in Shandong Province, Haihui Temple is one of the larger temples in North China. It comprises three parts: Liu Ancestral Hall, Haihui Temple, and Yunsiguan Guild Hall, including over ten scenic spots such as the mountain gate, Heavenly King Hall, Thousand Buddha Hall, Bell Tower, and Drum Tower. Haihui Temple is a typical Qing-era architectural complex combining temple and guild hall functions. Originally the residence of Cao Yuan Yong, Minister of Rites in the Yuan Dynasty, it is a national AA-level scenic spot.

Since ancient times, Haihui Temple has been closely associated with wisdom, commerce, and wealth. Buddhist culture, local traditional culture, and canal commercial culture blend seamlessly here. The temple held a grand consecration ceremony in 2000. (Text by Yanggu Tourism Bureau)

Acheng Town: Acheng Town is located on the north bank of the Yellow River, in the eastern part of Yanggu County. It covers an area of 115.1 square kilometers, with a population of 68,000 and 120,000 mu of arable land.

Acheng Town boasts a superior geographical location and a long history and culture. Its historic sites such as the Ancient A Well, Haihui Temple, and Sun Bin Pavilion are renowned both at home and abroad. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was "a bustling hub where scholars and merchants gathered," and one of the famous commercial ports along the canal.
