Huangguzhong Site

The Huangguzhong Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Shandong Province.

The Huangguzhong Site is a Neolithic cultural site located on the north side of the Yellow River in western Shandong. It is situated to the east of Ye Street Village, Shiwuliuyuan Township, southeast of Yanggu County, and is classified as a plain mound site. The current site area spans 1,100 square meters, rising 5 meters above the ground, with cultural strata up to 4.5 meters thick at the northern end. Trial excavations have been carried out, and the pottery shards unearthed and collected are predominantly red clay pottery. Identifiable artifacts include painted pottery bowls, tripods, and rings, though the cultural affiliation remains undetermined. The site dates back to approximately before the early Dawenkou Culture and is one of the earliest known Neolithic cultural sites in western Shandong. Late-period artifacts such as li tripod feet and rope-patterned pottery fragments have also been found at the site.
