Honggudui Site

The Honggudui Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Honggudui Site is a Neolithic cultural site located on the north bank of the Yellow River in western Shandong. It is situated west of Luhai Village in Zhangqiu Town, southeast of Yanggu County, and is a plain-type site. The site covers an area of approximately 50,000 square meters. The cultural deposits on the eastern cliff are about 3 meters thick. Collected pottery fragments are mostly made of red clay, including painted pottery, with decorations such as punctate patterns, incised lines, and appliqué ridges. Identifiable vessel shapes include red clay bowls, red-rimmed bowls, painted pottery bowls, tripods, basins, and rings. Stone tools include flat rectangular stone spades and rubbing sticks. The cultural features and nature of the site remain unclear. Its upper age limit predates the Dawenkou Culture, making it the earliest Neolithic cultural site discovered so far in western Shandong.
