Former Yellow River Course Ecological Wetland Scenic Area in Cao County

The Former Yellow River Course Ecological Wetland Scenic Area in Cao County is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a national wetland park.

The former course of the Yellow River is located in the southern part of the county. As the river once flowed through this area, it formed three old courses that run from west to east across 15 towns and townships including Zhuangzhai and Taoyuanji, covering a total area of 27,533.3 hectares. Within the former course area, there are 7 reservoirs, 75 kilometers of dikes, over 2,000 hectares of water surface, and 13,767 hectares of forest, among other natural landscapes. The wide dikes and floodplains in the area are suitable for planting a variety of fruit trees, fast-growing timber forests, as well as for lotus cultivation and fish farming. The Wild Duck Lake in the eastern section of the course is a rare natural lake of ten thousand mu in the plain region; the Jiepaiji Reservoir in the middle section boasts vast blue waters, abundant fish and shrimp, vast reed marshes, and thousands of acres of peach blossoms, creating a pleasant landscape; the western section features ten thousand mu of lotus ponds, ten thousand mu of rice fields, ten thousand mu of flower seas, and ten thousand mu of forests, which are considered the three major scenic highlights of the former course and hailed as the three pearls of leisure tourism along the Yellow River’s old course. Now, the entire former course area has formed a green corridor, among which the Weiwang Ten Thousand Mu Lotus Pond Scenic Area—now taking initial shape—is attracting an increasing number of tourists with its unique development advantages and boundless natural charm.
