Lianggudui Site

The Lianggudui Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Lianggudui Site is located to the north of Lianggudui Village, Houji Town, Cao County, approximately 17 kilometers west of Cao County. The southeastern part of the site is occupied by the entrance of a supply and marketing cooperative, and it borders a north-south road to the east.

Drilling surveys have shown that the site extends 92 meters from north to south and 124 meters from east to west, with an oval shape that is slightly longer from southeast to northwest. Years of soil removal by local residents have significantly reduced the size of the mound above ground, resulting in an irregular shape. Currently, the mound measures about 33 meters north to south and 39 meters east to west, covering a total area of 1,287 square meters, with a height of around 5 meters. The soil is blackish-gray, and several cypress trees grow on the mound. It is generally well-preserved.

In the spring of 1976, the Heze Regional Cultural Relics Work Team conducted a trial excavation on the western side of the site, opening a 25-square-meter test pit. A large number of pottery fragments from various periods were unearthed. Based on these samples, artifacts from the Longshan period include gray pottery jars with squared checkered patterns, chisel-shaped tripod feet, lids, cauldrons, lei vessels, pottery spinning whorls, and stone sickles; from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, there are coarse rope-patterned sandy bag-shaped li tripod feet, fine red sandy pottery jars, fine gray sandy pottery fu vessels, yan steamers, jars, basins, zun wine vessels, and gray pottery vats; and from the Han dynasty, there are fine rope-patterned pottery fragments.

The site contains cultural remains from several periods, including the Longshan, Shang, Zhou, and Han dynasties, showcasing a rich cultural heritage. In 1977, it was designated as a Provincial-Level Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Shandong Provincial Revolutionary Committee. In 2019, the Lianggudui Site was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
