Lufeng Mountain Scenic Area

Lufeng Mountain is located west of Beiwangzhuang Village, Taoquan Township, Cixian County, Handan City, and is one of the higher peaks in the southern part of the Taihang Mountains. It has an elevation of 1,087.7 meters. The mountain features extremely rich forest vegetation and boasts a landscape that combines grandeur, steepness, wonder, and beauty. The scenery is picturesque, pleasant, and tranquil. The 28 Zigzags on the way up from the mountain base to the halfway point are extremely steep and spectacular. Climbing the stone steps to reach the South Heaven Gate feels thrilling yet safe, as if ascending to heaven in a single step.

Lufeng Mountain got its name because its shape resembles a teapot. Legend has it that the mountain was formed when the Supreme Old Lord kicked over his alchemy furnace in a drunken stupor, causing it to land here. From a distance, the mountain’s rolling ridges and layered green peaks create a majestic view, while up close, its cliffs appear as if carved by supernatural forces, sheer and dramatic. On the mountainside stands an ancient green elm tree with a girth of about 6 meters, said to be over 2,000 years old. Despite the passage of millennia, the elm remains lush and vibrant. The total area of the mountain terrain exceeds 100 square kilometers. To the east, it faces the "Sleeping Beauty Mountain" from afar; to the west, it borders the former site of the "129th Division Headquarters" in Shexian County; to the south, it looks across the river at Henan's Red Flag Canal; and to the north, it neighbors Wu'an's "Jingniang Lake."

Lufeng Mountain is home to over 70 well-preserved sites of Ming and Qing dynasty pavilions, temples, and imperial architectural ruins, as well as ancient stone tablets. The mountain is tall, majestic, and uniquely shaped, with well-preserved forests and vegetation, and the Zhang River flowing around it. It combines the peculiarity of Huangshan, the grandeur of Mount Tai, the precipitousness of Mount Hua, and the beauty of Mount Lu. From a distance, the undulating mountains and layered peaks form a sea of green; up close, the cliffs look as if hewn by axe and chisel, truly breathtaking. The "Lufeng Morning Mist" is one of the Eight Great Scenic Spots of ancient Cizhou. From the mountaintop, visitors can watch the sunrise in the morning and the sunset in the evening. Those who descend from Lufeng Mountain often find themselves thinking, “If I’d known Lufeng had such a view, why trek all the way to Mount Tai?”
