Yiquan Lake in Cixian County

Yiquan Lake in Cixian County, also known as Dongwushi Reservoir Scenic Area, is located in Dongwushi Village, about 7 kilometers west of Cixian County and 30 kilometers southwest of Handan City, Hebei Province. It is a large-scale water conservancy hub project primarily designed for flood control and urban industrial water supply, while also serving functions such as irrigation, power generation, aquaculture, and tourism. The reservoir has a maximum water surface area of over 20,000 mu and a maximum storage capacity of up to 152 million cubic meters. Dongwushi Reservoir is responsible for flood protection for downstream areas including Cixian County and Handan City, covering seven counties and one city, as well as for the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Shenzhen Expressway, and National Highway 107. It is a large-scale water conservancy hub project mainly focused on flood control and urban water supply, while also supporting functions such as irrigation and power generation.

Construction of Dongwushi Reservoir began in January 1958, and by September 1959, the medium-sized Dongwushi Reservoir was largely completed, starting to intercept and store floodwaters. On April 1, 1970, the reservoir expansion project commenced and was fully completed in April 1974. After two reinforcement projects in 1975 and 1993, it reached its current scale. The flood control standard of Dongwushi Reservoir is designed for a 100-year flood and verified for a 2000-year flood. The normal water storage level of the reservoir is 109.68 meters, with design and verification flood levels at 106.18 meters and 110.7 meters, respectively.

Yiquan Lake Tourist Resort is a national-level water conservancy scenic area and a key tourist destination in Hebei Province, covering an area of 50 square kilometers. It offers six major tourism functions: dining, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment. Currently, Yiquan Lake Scenic Area has been designated as a core part of the Southern Hebei New Area. Surrounding the lake, there are facilities such as artificial sandy beaches, speedboat rides, traditional wooden boats, and fishing activities. Yiquan Lake has become an ideal habitat and wintering ground for dozens of migratory bird species, including wild geese, white swans, and wild ducks. From November to March each year, nearly 100,000 wild birds winter at Yiquan Lake, creating a unique natural spectacle.
