Zherong Bat Cave

It might have been named this way because bats used to inhabit it in the old days. Even though you can’t find a single bat inside now, just hearing the name still sends a bit of fear down your spine. You can’t help but worry that one of those mouse-like creatures might bite you and suck your blood.

It’s true that there are no bats in the Bat Cave, but in summer, it becomes a great place for visitors to escape the heat. The cave ceiling is open, and although it’s called a cave, it looks more like a long crevice — so long that you can’t even find a decent spot to sit. Inside the cave may be like that, but outside, there’s a flat, open area. Don’t let the simplicity of the space fool you — in summer, it gets packed with people, and even home air conditioners can’t compete with how cool it is out here.

Not far from this cave, just twenty or so steps down, you’ll find another cave, lying long and flat in the mountainside. No one knows what it’s called, but many people climb down to the bottom to check it out. Maybe this one is also called Bat Cave, but again, you won’t see a single bat.
