The Dongyuan Ancient Architectural Complex is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.
The Dongyuan Ancient Architectural Complex is located in Dongyuan Village, Dongyuan Township, Zherong County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty and the Republican era.
Overview: It consists of the Wu Clan Ancestral Hall Stage, the Old Study Hall, Peifeng Pavilion, an ancient well, the Whitewashed Wall House, and the former residence of Wu Cheng. The Wu Clan Ancestral Hall Stage was built in the 49th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1784), with a total width of 16.11 meters and covering an area of 458.33 square meters. It is composed of an audience hall, a stage, and corridors on both sides, featuring a flush-gable roof, gable-and-hip walls, and east and west gate towers located on the inner courtyard walls between the stage and the ancestral hall. The affiliated cultural relic “Thousand Autumns of Ancestral Land” stele stands 1.82 meters tall. The Old Study Hall was built in the same period as the Wu Clan Ancestral Hall Stage, consisting of two sets of structures at the front and rear, with a floor area of 262 square meters. The front section, “Xinyuan Hall,” is a two-story building with a flush-gable roof and post-and-lintel construction; the rear structure includes a front courtyard, gate tower, and main building, where the main structure “Zhuoyu Tower” is a two-story building with a double-eave flush-gable roof and post-and-lintel construction. Peifeng Pavilion is a reconstruction on the original site after a fire in the 23rd year of the Republican era (1934), with a total width of 8.85 meters and covering an area of 80.09 square meters. It is a roadside pavilion with a hip-and-gable roof, featuring four square stone pillars at the corners and a flagstone-paved floor. The ancient well was renovated in the 10th year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1805), constructed of stone with a rectangular shape. The well opening measures 1.92 meters in length and 1.4 meters in width, with a depth of 1.2 meters; the well platform is 5 meters long and 3.5 meters wide. The Whitewashed Wall House was built during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era (1736–1795), facing north and south, with a total width of 30.42 meters and a total depth of 28.10 meters. Along the central axis are, in sequence, the entrance hall, courtyard, main hall, and another courtyard, with two-story wing rooms on both sides of the front courtyard. The main hall has a double-eave hanging gable roof and a double-rafter arched front porch. The former residence of Wu Cheng faces northwest and southeast, a five-bay, two-story building with post-and-lintel construction, with a total width of 16.74 meters and a total depth of 8.54 meters. The revolutionary martyr Wu Cheng once ran a tailor shop here; it is a combined residential and commercial building integrating late Qing Dynasty civilian housing and shop functions.
Protection Area: Each individual structure is surrounded by a protection buffer extending 20 meters outward in all directions.
