Liao Cuo Hot Spring

Liao Cuo Hot Spring, located 18 kilometers from the government seat of Zhuoyang Township, is the only hot spring in eastern Fujian. Anyone who has bathed here can’t stop praising its waters. Near the hot spring, there is a small stream with crystal-clear water that murmurs softly. Cross the small bridge, and you’ll enter a dense primeval forest. On one side, there are lush green leaves, winding vines, and moss-covered surfaces; on the other, you'll hear the gurgling springs, see silver waterfalls cascading into emerald pools, and watch schools of fish darting about. It’s truly an ideal place for leisurely exploration.

Walk along the stream for one or two hundred meters, and you’ll see several red-brick, blue-tiled houses. Around these houses is deep underground water that rises to the surface through faults and cracks after being heated by geothermal energy. There are two springs here continuously emitting hot water at around 40°C. In terms of temperature, it is classified as a medium-temperature hot spring; in terms of mineral content, it is a sulfur spring. Five bathhouses and one open-air large hot pool have been built. The hot spring water is piped in, filling the air with steam. Bathing in the hot spring gives you the true feeling of “smooth hot spring water washing silky skin”—the water is so slick that droplets slide right off your body with a slight shake. Bathing here is truly an experience you won’t want to end.

In 1995, when the township government sought to develop this site, they requested support from the Provincial Geological and Mineral Bureau. After efforts were made, the bureau sent technical personnel to conduct a preliminary geological survey, drilling two 90-meter-deep wells and extracting some underground hot spring water, which provided a basis for analyzing the specific mineral content. According to tests, Liao Cuo produces about 800 tons of hot spring water per day, indicating great potential for further development.

Zhuoyang Township: A township under the jurisdiction of Gutian County. In 1957, it was part of Hetang Township. In 1963, the Zhuoyang Commune was established, and in 1984 it was restructured as a township. Located in the eastern part of the county, it is 53 kilometers from the county seat. It covers an area of 98 square kilometers and has a population of 19,000. The township administers 15 village committees: Zhuoyang, Linqian, Xiufeng, Dufeng, Wenyang, Liao Cuo, Banshan, Jiyan, Qianyang, Jingfeng, Xiadi, Shudou, CaoHu, Guyangzi, and Yangta.
