The ancient residential buildings of Huangtian may not be as grand as the Forbidden City or the Temple of Heaven, nor do they feature the perfectly preserved, elaborate clusters of traditional houses seen in Huizhou or southern Anhui. The architecture here is plain yet classic, exuding an old-world charm. But that is exactly what makes it attractive — the ancient, enduring folk culture concealed beneath its simplicity, and the raw yet vibrant historical power encapsulated within its vintage appeal.

Nestled quietly within the landscapes of eastern Fujian, the ancient residential buildings in Xikeng Village, Huangtian Town, may not draw loud attention, but every corner and object reflects the glory accumulated over centuries. This is a mid-to-late Qing Dynasty structure that embodies a blend of classical elegance and timeless charm. Built around the year 1830, it has stood for 180 years and remains in remarkably good condition. Covering a site area of 1,500 square meters and a total built-up area exceeding 3,000 square meters, the building has two floors and a total of fifty rooms. Its large scale and numerous rooms are truly breathtaking. The wood carvings are exquisitely detailed, and the clay sculptures are refined and graceful, making the entire structure magnificent. What has passed remains in the past, but what endures is this culture, this accumulation, and this deep sense of emotion. Today, the undimmed brilliance still glows brightly within these time-honored remnants, captivating all who behold them.

Xikeng Village: Located to the east of Huangtian Town, Xikeng Village is 12 kilometers from the town government seat, with Provincial Highway 203 running through it. The village is an administrative village composed of five natural villages: Xinxi, Jiuxi, Xiayangzi, Likeng, and Banshan. It has 235 households, a population of 868, and 31 Party members. The arable land covers 1,600 mu, and forested land spans 26,196 mu. During the Liberation War period, the elders of Xikeng Village contributed significantly to China’s liberation efforts, earning the village the honorable title of Key Old Revolutionary Base Area from higher authorities.
