Former Residence of Lin Yaohua

The former residence of Lin Yaohua is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The former residence of Lin Yaohua is located in Fengting Village, Huangtian Town, Gutian County, dating back to the Republican era.

Description: Constructed in the fourth year of the Republic of China (1915), it faces south and spans an area of 703 square meters. It comprises a front courtyard gate wall, front courtyard yard, porch, front patio, as well as two-story side courtyards (with side patios) on both sides, the main house, and a rear patio. The main house features five bays in width, with wall passages on both sides. The outer gables of these wall passages are built as stepped rammed earth walls. Lin Yaohua (1910–2000) was a renowned Chinese ethnologist, anthropologist, historian, sociologist, and ethnic educationist. His famous sociological work "Golden Wings," written in 1944, is a vivid account of his former residence and the social history of Huangcun Village where it is located.

In 2018, the former residence of Lin Yaohua was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the Fujian Provincial People's Government.

Protected area: An extension of 20 meters outward from all sides of the building.

Golden Wings Village: Huangtian Town’s Golden Wings Village is situated on the northeastern bank of the middle reaches of the Min River, adjacent to Provincial Highway 202. It is the hometown of the renowned Chinese ethnologist, anthropologist, and sociologist Lin Yaohua, often referred to as the “Hometown of the Golden Wings.” The village covers a total land area of 15,838 mu, with 3,809 mu of arable land and 12,029 mu of forest land. It has a total population of 1,655 people, comprising 495 households, and includes one ethnic minority natural village. The village has 48 Party members, including six female members. In 2011, the per capita income of farmers reached 11,000 yuan, and the village’s fiscal revenue was 29,000 yuan.
