Qilin Mountain Park

Qilin Mountain Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Qilin Mountain Park is located in the eastern part of Sanming city proper and was established in October 1980. Originally named Niulong Mountain, the hill stands 262 meters above sea level. It was renamed Qilin Mountain after an ancient tomb halfway up the hill yielded a stone tablet depicting Confucius playing with a qilin. The park covers an area of 40 hectares and offers attractions and facilities including the Qilin Pavilion, a cable car, "Dragon Playing with Water," the Garden within a Garden, a Suzhou-style pavilion complex, the Qilin Academy, and a winding scenic path.

Built along the mountainside are also the Haoran Pavilion, Juyun Pavilion, Sanyuan Pavilion, Lotus Pavilion, Flying Stone Pavilion, and covered walkways, with structures in three-pointed, hexagonal, and square shapes, varying in height. The Qilin Pavilion, constructed at the highest point of the mountain, stands 24.5 meters tall and 12 meters wide, with eight sides across six floors, built from reinforced concrete. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape from the pavilion.

To the north of the mountain lies an artificial lake covering approximately 3 mu (about 0.2 hectares). On the east side of the lake is the Yinghe Pavilion, topped with a solitary crane statue; near the lakeshore is the Linji Bridge, and a five-arch bridge spans the lake. An electric dragon boat is available on the lake for visitors to enjoy a ride around it. The park also provides service facilities such as a restaurant, teahouse, photography studio, and arts and crafts exhibition hall. The cable car leading to the mountaintop is among the earliest chairlift-style systems to be operational in China’s tourist scenic areas. It was built in January 1983, with a length of 625.34 meters, an elevation difference of 92.75 meters, a speed of 1 meter per second, and 41 chairs that can accommodate 82 people. A mountain-looping road also leads directly to the summit.
