Ancient Gongchuan Town

Ancient Gongchuan Town in Meilie is located in Gongchuan Town, about 10 kilometers from the Taoyuan Cave Scenic Area, and is one of the best-preserved ancient towns in Fujian Province. The ancient town walls within the town are still relatively well preserved. Built during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty, they stretch over 2,000 meters in length and stand 7.9 meters high. By the late Ming Dynasty, an academy housing a collection of 100,000 volumes had been established inside the fortress. Outside the fortress stands the uniquely designed Huiqing Bridge, built in the late Ming and early Qing periods.
