Immortal Valley National Forest Park
Immortal Valley National Forest Park is just 1 kilometer from the city government’s location. The park is divided into four scenic areas based on its geological landforms and landscape features: Lovers’ Valley Scenic Area, Pingxi Waterfall Scenic Area, Sightseeing Orchard Area, and Folk Culture Leisure Area, covering a total area of 1,488 hectares. The Flying Dragon Waterfall, Golden Toad Waterfall, Tiger Gate Cliff, and Fairy Altar Stone are four of the park’s most famous attractions. Immortal Valley Forest Park was upgraded to national forest park status in December 2003.
With a forest coverage rate of over 95%, Immortal Valley National Forest Park is the only well-preserved secondary virgin forest surrounding the urban area. It remains lush and green all year round. The park is home to 130 families and 522 species of vascular plants, including first-class nationally protected tree species such as the southern yew and the Chinese tulip tree (Paulownia tomentosa), as well as second-class protected species such as tree ferns, rosewood, camphor trees, concave-leaved magnolia, longleaf torreya, golden larch, and Fujian cypress. The favorable ecological environment provides a habitat for nationally protected wildlife such as silver pheasants, macaques, pythons, cobras, and pangolins. At the same time, leaping squirrels, colorful butterflies, and a variety of bird species dwell within the forest, bringing vitality to the park and making it the city’s “back garden.”
The geology of Immortal Valley National Forest Park dates back to the Triassic period of the Mesozoic era, with rock formations consisting of Yanshanian granite formed by deep magmatic intrusion. Intense neotectonic movements have created the park’s striking peaks, unique rocks, and secluded valleys. The main peak, Tiger Head Mountain, stands at an elevation of 1,166 meters, with a relative height of 971 meters. The area receives an average annual precipitation of 1,726.3 millimeters, providing ideal conditions for plant growth and abundant water sources for the park’s water landscapes. The park boasts 95 major scenic spots in total, including 34 geomorphological sites, 23 water-related sites, 18 biological sites, 4 celestial phenomena sites, and 16 cultural and other attractions.
Immortal Valley National Forest Park features amenities such as a Hundred Trees Garden, a Hundred Bamboo Garden, dining facilities, a teahouse, and observation pavilions (terraces). With convenient transportation and serene scenery, the park is rich in negative oxygen ions, making it an ideal destination for urban residents to engage in fitness and leisure activities, sightseeing, family gatherings, and science education.
