Hongjun Road

Hongjun Road is located to the north of Bixi Village, ChenDa Town, Meilie District.

In the winter of 1933, to support the Red Army’s campaign to take Sha County, Ma Fengcheng organized the Shajiao and Bixi party branches to actively cooperate with the Red Army work team in secretly mobilizing Party members and local residents to collect medicinal herbs, which were then transported along this road to Heshan Village to support the Red Army’s offensive against Sha County. After the Red 3rd Army Corps captured Sha County, farmers from Bixi Township responded enthusiastically to the call of the Party organization and the Peasants’ Association. Over 20 villagers traveled along this road to Sha County to help the Red Army transport captured supplies. From then on, Party and Peasants’ Association activities in Bixi Township became more active, mobilizing the masses to join the revolutionary struggle.

During the Fifth Encirclement Campaign in May 1934, the northern front of the Central Soviet Area was in a critical situation, with the territory shrinking continuously. The 4th Column of the Nationalist Army’s Eastern Route built a line from Liancheng to Ninghua, advancing step-by-step toward the Soviet Area. To meet the needs of the counter-encirclement efforts, the 19th Regiment of the Red 7th Army Corps, under the command of Regiment Commander Zhou Jianping, advanced from Mingxi into the Meilie area, passing through Shajiao and Bixi. Over 1,000 soldiers moved along this road to assemble in the mountains behind Liesi Village. They then split into four groups to cross the river and launch a fierce assault on parts of the enemy’s 239th Brigade and two battalions of the 238th Brigade stationed on the eastern bank of the Shaxi River, annihilating most of the enemy forces. Local residents proudly refer to this road as “Hongjun Road” (Red Army Road).

Bixi Village: Bixi Village is located at the junction of Mingxi, Sha County, and Sanming, about 21 kilometers from downtown Sanming. It is the only former revolutionary base village in Meilie District and was recognized as one of the first Red Army villages in Sanming in 2012. The village administers four natural villages: Cuntou, Cunwei, Shenkeng, and Chixia, with a total of 415 households, 1,529 people, and 52 Party members. Among them, 58 households consisting of 263 people belong to the ethnic She minority, who live mainly in the Chixia natural village. The village covers a total land area of 27,940 mu, including 26,000 mu of forested land and 1,940 mu of arable land.
