Former Site of the Fujian Provincial Federation of Trade Unions

The Former Site of the Fujian Provincial Federation of Trade Unions is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

In the spring of 1932, the workers' congresses of Fujian and Jiangxi provinces were successfully held on Huangjiashan Mountain in Ruijin, Jiangxi. The two provincial federations of trade unions were officially established, and Zhang Siyuan was elected as the chairman of the Fujian Provincial Federation of Trade Unions. The Fujian Provincial Federation of Trade Unions was located here, with departments including organization, propaganda, communications, and women’s affairs. It governed the federations of trade unions in counties and cities such as Changting, Longyan, Qingliu, Ninghua, Guiding, Shanghang, Yongding, Xinquan, Liancheng, and the City of Tingzhou, as well as seven industrial trade unions: papermaking, wooden boats, shop assistants, handicrafts, farm laborers, dockworkers (coolies), and textiles, with approximately 11,200 members. The Chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions visited Tingzhou multiple times to guide the work of the provincial federation and the City of Tingzhou union, conducting in-depth investigations at various grassroots unions in Tingzhou, holding various forms of workers’ symposiums. As a result, the trade union organizations across the province developed rapidly. At that time, he resided in the upstairs pavilion of the rear hall. The Party Group Secretary of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions also visited Tingzhou multiple times to guide the trade union movement. In April 1933, he published “On the Economic Struggles of Trade Unions in the Soviet Areas,” introducing the experiences and lessons of the workers’ movement and trade union work in the Western Fujian Soviet Area. In July of the same year, he also wrote the article “How to Establish Labor Contracts,” which introduced the guiding principles and methods for workers in Tingzhou to establish labor contracts and promoted this experience to trade unions across the entire Soviet Area. With the strong leadership of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the full support of all its members, the trade union movement in Fujian flourished vigorously, effectively supporting the revolutionary war and making significant contributions to the construction and consolidation of the Soviet revolutionary base areas.

This site was designated as part of the third group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units in 1988 and houses a special exhibition titled “- in Tingzhou.”
