Twin Yin Towers
The Twin Yin Towers are protected cultural heritage sites of Changting County.
The Twin Yin Towers refer to the combination of the ancient "Bagua Dragon Spring" well from the Tang Dynasty and the ancient "Academy Yin Tower" well from the Song Dynasty. Unlike surface towers, these wells are uniquely inverted underground, hence the name "Yin Towers" (meaning “hidden” or “subterranean” towers), and are rare ancient wells in China. On December 16 and December 19, 1984, the People’s Daily twice published exclusive reports by Xinhua News Agency journalists on the discovery of the "Twin Yin Towers" by cultural relics workers in Changting. In 1989, they were designated as part of the third batch of county-level protected cultural heritage sites.
