Xinggeng Villa
Xinggeng Villa is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.
Former Site of the Red Fourth Army Headquarters and Political Department — Xinggeng Villa. On March 14, 1929, Mao Zedong and Zhu De led the Red Fourth Army on their first expedition into Fujian, liberating Changting City. The army’s headquarters and political department were stationed here, where Mao and Zhu also resided. Mao presided over an investigative meeting and an expanded session of the Red Fourth Army Front Committee in the main hall, where a grand strategic plan to establish the Central Revolutionary Base Area was formulated. This site is a traditional courtyard-style residential building, facing south and built with earth and wood. It covers an area of 523 square meters. It was designated as part of the third group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units in 1988.

Born on December 1, 1886, courtesy name Yujie. A native of Yilong, Sichuan. In 1909, he entered the Yunnan Military Academy and joined the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance (Tongmenghui) the same year. He participated in the Xinhai Revolution. After 1913, he served in the Yunnan Army as a company commander, deputy battalion commander, battalion commander, and brigade commander. He took part in the National Protection War and the Constitutional Protection War. In 1922, he went to Germany to study and joined the Communist Party of China the same year.
