General Yang Chengwu Memorial Hall

The General Yang Chengwu Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism attraction.

The General Yang Chengwu Memorial Hall is located on the east side of Yang Chengwu General Square at Luohan Ridge, West Gate, Tingzhou Town, Changting County, Longyan City, Fujian Province. The memorial hall is integrated with the bronze statue of General Yang Chengwu and Yang Chengwu General Square.

The name of the memorial hall was inscribed by Shen Peng, a renowned calligrapher, art critic, and former member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. The memorial hall covers an area of 361.06 square meters and is a single-story Hakka-style building with gray-tiled walls and black tiles, constructed with brick-concrete structure.

General Yang Chengwu (1914–2004) was from Xiamiao Village, Xuancheng Township, Changting County, Fujian Province. During the revolutionary war years, he commanded or participated in the command of many famous battles, repeatedly creating miracles in the history of revolutionary warfare, and made immortal contributions to the founding of New China. He became a beloved and respected founding general among the people and military officers.

During the Long March of the Red Army, the 4th Regiment of the Red Army, to which General Yang Chengwu belonged, often served as the vanguard regiment. It successively broke through four enemy lines, fought fiercely at the Xiang River, crossed the Wu River, seized the Lou Mountain Pass, and defended the Zunyi Conference, achieving victory after victory. After the Zunyi Conference, under the direct command of Comrade Mao Zedong, he participated in the battles of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River, the Ingenious Capture of Three Counties, the Dash across the Jinsha River, the Crossing of the Daliang Mountains, the Seizure of the Luding Bridge, the Opening of the Snow Mountain and Grassland Route, and the Breakthrough of the Lazi Pass, a strategic mountain pass.

The lobby of the memorial hall features a portrait of General Yang Chengwu, with a backdrop depicting the Red Army’s seizure of the Luding Bridge, and Mao Zedong’s poem “The Long March” printed on it.
