The Changting County Museum is a patriotic education base.

The Changting County Museum is located at No. 41 Zhaozheng Road, Tingzhou Town, Chengguan, Changting County. It covers an area of 9,306 square meters, with a building area of 2,870 square meters and an exhibition area of 1,680 square meters. The museum currently employs 22 staff members and oversees six national key cultural relic protection units within the county: the former site of the Fujian Provincial Soviet Government – Tingzhou Examination Hall; the former site of the Central Red Hospital – Gospel Hospital and Mao Zedong’s Rest Home; the former site of the Red Fourth Army Headquarters and Political Department (former residences of Mao Zedong and Zhu De) – Xinggeng Villa; the former site of the first county-level red political power in the Central Soviet Area – Yunxiang Pavilion; the former site of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC (former residence of Zhou Enlai) – China Christian Church; and the former site of the Fujian Provincial Federation of Trade Unions (former residence of Liu Shaoqi) – Zhang Family Ancestral Hall. The museum is housed within the former “Provincial Soviet” site and is the earliest established county-level museum in the province. The former site hosts four permanent exhibitions: “Red Little Shanghai of the Central Soviet Area,” “Exhibition of the Tingzhou Hakka Museum,” “Exhibition of Generals from Fujian in the Republic of China,” and “Historical Exhibition of the Fujian Provincial Soviet Government.” In addition, special exhibitions such as “Pioneer in Healing the Nation – Fu Lianzhang,” “The First Entry of the Red Fourth Army into Fujian,” and “Liu Shaoqi in Tingzhou” are held at other historical sites under its jurisdiction. The museum houses a collection of over 13,000 cultural relics and documents, including more than 2,000 classified as precious. As a county-level comprehensive museum, in addition to responsibilities for collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and researching cultural relics and materials, it also shoulders the dual task of managing and protecting cultural relics throughout the county. For two consecutive years, it has been recognized as a municipal and county-level civilized unit; a provincial and municipal patriotic education base; a civilized scenic spot in Longyan City; in 1996, it was awarded the title of “National Excellent Patriotic Education Base” by the National Cultural Heritage Administration; in 2000, it was named one of the first fourteen “Standardized and Graded Museums and Memorial Halls” in the province; and in 2006, it became a field teaching site for the China Executive Leadership Academy Jinggangshan. It has now become an important window for external publicity in western Fujian and a classic red tourism attraction (site) in China.

Tingzhou Town: Tingzhou Town in Changting County is located in the western part of Fujian Province, on the upper reaches of the Ting River and the southern end of the Wuyi Mountains. It is the seat of the county government. The town covers an area of 10.6 square kilometers, has nine neighborhood committees, and a population of 62,600. Since the Tang Dynasty, it has been the location of prefectures, counties, routes, and administrative offices, and is the ancestral home of the Hakka people. It is a long-established and renowned handicraft city and serves as the political, economic, and cultural center of western Fujian.
