Huang’s Elegant Garden

Huang’s Elegant Garden is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Huang’s Elegant Garden is located on Xinfeng Street, Shuidong Street, Tingzhou Town, Changting County, Longyan City. Built during the Republic of China period (1911–1949), it covers an area of 410 square meters and features a brick, stone, and wood structure. The property consists of a gatehouse, a rain courtyard, buildings on the west and north sides, and a single-story house on the south side. The gatehouse and the facades of the buildings are adorned with stone carvings and clay sculptures. Many of the construction materials were imported from Japan. It was the most distinctive and luxurious European-style building in downtown Changting during the Republic of China era. In 2009, it was designated as a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Tingzhou Town: Tingzhou Town in Changting County, located in western Fujian Province, upstream of the Ting River, and at the southern end of the Wuyi Mountains, is the seat of the county government. Covering an area of 10.6 square kilometers, the town has nine neighborhood committees and a population of 62,600. Since the Tang Dynasty, it has been the location of prefectures, states, circuits, and provincial offices, and is the ancestral home of the Hakka people. As a historic city renowned for its handicrafts, it serves as the political, economic, and cultural center of western Fujian.
