Former Site of the Red Fourth Army Headquarters (Zhongxing Hall)
The Former Site of the Red Fourth Army Headquarters (Zhongxing Hall) is a classic destination for red tourism.
Zhongxing Hall is located in Bajia Village, Gutian Town, Shanghang County, and was built in the 10th year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1805). It is a traditional enclosed-style building with a layout consisting of one main hall and three wing rooms. In December 1929, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Chen Yi, and others led the Red Fourth Army to Gutian, establishing the Red Fourth Army Headquarters at Zhongxing Hall. Comrade Zhu De lived in the left wing room of the rear hall.
After the Red Fourth Army arrived in Gutian, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Chen Yi, and others held a joint conference of representatives at various levels here, calling on attendees to work together to eliminate all kinds of non-proletarian consciousness. Through over 10 days of study and discussion, the representatives deepened their understanding of various non-proletarian erroneous ideas within the Party and proposed corrective measures.
In addition to actively assisting Mao Zedong, Zhu De also drafted the “Report on Military Issues” here, which was read out at the Gutian Conference. He also wrote New Guerrilla Tactics, a groundbreaking Marxist-Leninist military work that emphasized practice and case studies, using vivid and accessible language to explain military theory.
