Hakka Genealogy Museum

Established in 2000, the Hakka Genealogy Museum boasts a collection of genealogies from 153 Hakka surnames, totaling over 2,900 volumes and more than 20,000 books. It also holds over 19,000 Hakka contracts and more than a hundred ancestral and deity worship charts, along with other clan documentation. The museum has 20,875 authenticated relics (items/sets), including 687 classified as precious relics of third grade or above, making it the largest and most comprehensive center for Hakka genealogy collection, research, and exchange both in China and abroad. Leveraging its unique strength in bloodline culture, the museum provides services such as ancestry tracing, genealogy matching, and academic research to tens of thousands of Hakka compatriots—including those from Taiwan—as well as scholars and experts. With its distinctive features, diverse activities, and effective operations, it has become a renowned cultural emblem of Hakka heritage not only in Shanghang County but across Fujian Province, and is recognized as one of the province’s first cross-strait exchange bases. Additionally, it serves as a “Hakka Genealogy Research and Teaching Practice Base” for four universities across the Taiwan Strait: Union University in Taiwan, South China University of Technology, Gannan Normal University, and Longyan University. It is also designated as a patriotic education base in Longyan City, a research and study education base for primary and secondary school students in Longyan, and an educational base for youth to inherit Hakka traditional culture at the county level.

In 2018, the Hakka Genealogy Museum was rated as a National Third-Class Museum, officially marking its inclusion among national museums—a milestone long anticipated by Hakka people around the world.
