Lenin Platform

The Lenin Platform is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Lenin Platform is located in Caixi Town, Shanghang County, Longyan City. It was built by the people of Caixi in April 1930 on Madobao Dam to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Lenin’s birth. The Caixi District and Township Soviet governments often held mass meetings here to carry out political propaganda campaigns and to see off local workers and peasants joining the army to fight in battles. In November 1934, when the Kuomintang army reinstated control, the Lenin Platform was damaged. After liberation, the Fujian Provincial Government allocated funds for its restoration, returning it to its original appearance. It was designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 2013.

Caixi Town: The renowned "Caixi" in Shanghang has an interesting evolution of its place name.

Over seven hundred years ago, the area around Caixi was dense mountain forest with gurgling streams and firewood readily available everywhere. The earliest settlers, an elderly couple surnamed Liu, called this place “Chaixi” (Firewood Stream). To this day, the Liu family’s ancient settlement site is referred to by locals as Yuankeng. “Yuan” means beginning.

Many years later, a merchant surnamed Chen traveling from Yukou Market (now Jiuxian) to Baishi Village (now the county seat of Changting) ventured deep into the forested hinterlands of “Chaixi” and lost his way.
