Qiu Fu’s Former Residence

Qiu Fu’s Former Residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Shanghang County.

Qiu Fu’s Former Residence is located at No. 23, Balixialu, Lanxi Village, Lanxi Town. It was built by Qiu Fu in 1914 as a two-story enclosed building, facing east and situated westward. The structure is a hybrid of brick, earth, and wood, covering an area of approximately 900 square meters. Centered around a large central courtyard, it features two-story buildings on three sides, with five halls and eight rooms on the ground floor. Qiu Fu (July 1874 – November 1950), originally named Fu, with the family name Naifang, courtesy names Guoyuan and Shouqiao, and pseudonym Hesheng, later changed his given name from Fu to Fu after the 1911 Revolution and adopted the courtesy name He Gong. He referred to himself as "Jinlu Jushi" (Resident of the Mind Cottage). A successful candidate in the imperial examination during the late Qing Dynasty, he, under the advocacy of Qiu Fengjia, founded the county’s first normal school training institute (Democratic Normal School) in January 1906 at the ancestral temple of the Qiu clan in Shanghang. He served as its supervisor and authored extensively throughout his life, overseeing the compilation of county annals for counties such as Changting, Shanghang, and Wuping.

Eastward extension by 8 meters to the outer edge of the outer terrace, southward extension by 2 meters to the south side of the small path, westward extension by 3 meters to the east side of the outer terrace, northward extension by 3.8 meters to the enclosing wall.

Eastward extension from the protected area by 5 meters to the creek bank, southward extension by 3 meters, westward extension by 25 meters to the village road, northward extension by 10 meters.

Lanxi Village: Located in the southeastern part of Shanghang County, Lanxi Village is the main settlement of Lanxi Town. The Huangtan River flows nearby, and the village sits at an average elevation of about 200 meters. It has a subtropical monsoon climate, with pleasant weather year-round, abundant sunlight, and plentiful rainfall, making it one of the counties with the best climate. The village currently has 498 households and a population of 2,048, divided into 21 villager groups. It administers four natural villages: Tangzipeng, Caotian, Houli, and Ouanyuan.
