Physician Su Kang’s Former Residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Shanghang County.

Physician Su Kang’s Former Residence is located at No. 5, Xinwuli, Su Kang Village, Jiaoyang Town. It dates back to the Qing Dynasty and is classified as an ancient building.

Physician Su Kang’s Former Residence is located at No. 5, Xinwuli, Su Kang Village, Jiaoyang Town. It was built in the 23rd year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1897) by Zhang Yongyuan, who at the time held the rank of Provincial Governor of the fourth rank plus five levels, had been honored with military merit and appointed as a sixth-rank Gongfeng Tongfeng Doctor, Zhaowu Duwei, and in the early years of the Republic of China served as a councilor of Yunnan Province. He participated in the National Protection Movement and the Constitutional Protection Movement. The structure is made of brick and wood with a flush gable roof, facing northwest to southeast. The outer main gate faces southwest to northeast. It covers an area of approximately 1,020 square meters, with a two-courtyard, two-row layout. The lower hall features a post-and-lintel and raised-beam wooden frame, five bays deep and three bays wide. The upper hall has a post-and-lintel wooden frame, seven bays deep and three bays wide. The main building and wing rooms are separated by a courtyard. The central hall’s door lintel is inlaid with a stone horizontal plaque inscribed with “Physician’s Residence.” The fire walls are of the five-flower-three-wall style, with clay tile floors and stone-paved courtyards.

Physician Su Kang’s Former Residence is the 11th batch of county-level cultural relic protection units in Shanghang County.

Protected Area: Extending 3.5 meters outward from the east side wall to the east edge of the village road; extending 6 meters outward from the drip line of the south rear wall to the enclosing wall; extending 6 meters outward from the drip line on the west side to the village road; extending 1 meter outward from the drip line on the north side as the protected area. An additional 10-meter buffer zone is designated beyond the protected area as a construction control zone.

Su Kang Village: Su Kang Village has 546 rural laborers, of whom 329 work outside the village and 42 are engaged in other occupations.
