Haokeng Shude Hall

Haokeng Shude Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Shanghang County.

Haokeng Shude Hall is located in Haokang Village, Xiadu Town, dating back to the Qing Dynasty, and is classified as an ancient architectural structure.

Located in Haokang Village, Xiadu Town, its construction began in the first year of the Guangxu reign (1875) and was completed in the nineteenth year of the Guangxu reign (1893). It faces south and is backed by mountains and fronted by a stream, with the front lower than the back, covering an area of approximately 2,600 square meters, and features a three-courtyard, three-row layout. There are two main halls in the center, ten side halls, and 26 living rooms. The entire building is centered around the main hall and the central gate as the axis. On both sides, there are symmetrically arranged rows of wing rooms that echo the main hall. The three main gates of the central hall and the wing rooms are aligned in a row. The builder, Hongfu Gong (1830–1901), came from a family of farmers and scholars, and was engaged in the production of tobacco shreds, which were sold to Hunan and overseas, yielding substantial tax revenues. The imperial court awarded him the honorific title of “Granted Sixth-Rank Military Merit.” He valued gratitude, integrity, and virtuous conduct, and named the residence “Shude Hall” (Hall of Virtue Narrated) to remind his descendants of the fundamental importance of virtue.

Haokeng Shude Hall is the eleventh batch of county-level cultural relic protection units in Shanghang County.

Protected area: The protection zone extends 1 meter beyond the eaves drip line on the east side, 10 meters beyond the main gate on the south side to the small stream, 1 meter beyond the eaves drip line on the west side, and 28 meters beyond the eaves drip line on the north side to the foot of the mountain. A construction control zone extends 10 meters beyond the protected area.

Haokang Village: Haokang Village is located in the southeastern part of Shanghang, serving as the eastern gateway to Xiadu Township. It borders Cai坑 Village in Rentai Town, Sanyi, Huangxi, and Xinzhai in Xiadu on all sides, covering a total area of approximately 15 square kilometers, with an elevation of about 190 meters. The village has around 1,000 mu of arable land, 34,000 mu of forest land, 286 households, 10 villager groups, and a population of 1,268. It is a well-known old revolutionary base area and a designated key village at the county level. The subordinate villages of Aoxia and Shexingzhai Bei are designated provincial-level revolutionary base villages.
