The Former Residence of Wu Tang is located at No. 388 Nanqiao North Road, Langya District, Chuzhou City. It dates back to the Qing Dynasty, is categorized as an ancient building, and covers an area of 500 square meters. It is listed as part of the third batch of cultural heritage protection units in Chuzhou City, with the announcement document number Chuzheng [2006] No. 25.

Protected Area: east to Nanqiao North Road, south to the People's Cinema, west to Jingang Lane, north to 20 meters north of the residence.

Wu Tang. His courtesy name was Zhongxuan and his art name was Dihua. He was from Xuyi, Anhui (now Sanjie Town, Mingguang City, Anhui). It is said that in his youth, “his family was extremely poor and could not afford lamp oil, so he often studied under the light of snow or moonlight.”

Wu Tang was appointed as the magistrate of Taoyuan County (present-day Sihong County, Jiangsu Province) in the Huai’an Prefecture in the first selection of juren (successful candidates in the imperial provincial examinations) in the 29th year of the Daoguang reign (1849). During his tenure, he was diligent in governance, often went out in plain clothes to visit the poor and inquire into their hardships, promoted education and civil ethics to govern the county, personally dealt with banditry and floods, and brought peace and prosperity to the region within three years of office. In the first year of the Xianfeng reign (1851), he was transferred to be the magistrate of Qinghe County in the Huai’an Prefecture.
