Foziling

Foziling is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

The Foziling Provincial Nature Reserve is located at the border between Huoshan County and Yuexi County in western Anhui, situated between longitude 116°8′45″–116°16′53″ east and latitude 30°5′–30°10′ north. The reserve stretches east to Duguishan Village and Hujiahe Village in Motanzhen Town, south to the Humu Highway, west to Jinpingping Village in Taiyang Township, adjacent to Yuexi County, and north to Huiyanghe Village and Qingfengling Village in Dahoupingshan Town. The entire area consists of the state-owned Majiahe Forest Farm as well as parts of collective mountain areas from Taiyang Township, Motanzhen Town, and Dahoupingshan Town, covering a total area of 6,667 hectares.

The vegetation in the area belongs to the mixed evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved forest zone of northern subtropical regions. Its zonal vegetation primarily consists of deciduous broad-leaved trees such as cork oak and sawtooth oak, along with evergreen broad-leaved trees mainly composed of cyclobalanopsis and castanopsis. However, most of the original vegetation has been replaced by secondary vegetation. Below an altitude of 700 meters, the area is dominated by Masson pine, Chinese fir, bamboo, and crops, along with economic forests, shrublands, and herbaceous plants. Between altitudes of 700–1,200 meters, the dominant vegetation includes zonal deciduous broad-leaved trees, secondary shrubs, Huangshan trees, Chinese fir, and tea bushes. Above 1,200 meters, the area mostly features montane dwarf forests and evergreen shrubs, interspersed with some alpine meadow plants. Representative plant species in the area include ginkgo, Masson pine, Huangshan pine, Dabie Mountains five-needle pine, golden larch, Chinese fir, torreya, magnolia officinalis, camphor tree, pawpaw, loquat, redbud, silk tree, sawtooth oak, cork oak, eucommia, tung tree, oil-tea camellia, Rhododendron latoucheae, trident maple, Indocalamus sinicus, and others.

The wildlife in the Foziling Nature Reserve includes over 70 species of mammals, more than 20 species of birds, and over 10 species of other aquatic, terrestrial, and amphibious animals. Key nationally protected species are the musk deer, small Indian civet, otter, masked palm civet, and giant salamander.

This reserve is the only provincial-level nature reserve in the province that primarily focuses on protecting the Dendrobium huoshanense, the nationally protected animal musk deer, and the giant salamander. Additionally, it prohibits logging in the natural forests of the two major reservoir headwaters, strengthens the development of water conservation forests, and plays an extraordinary role in stabilizing the forest ecosystem, effectively preserving soil and water, and ensuring the sustainable development of the multiple functions of the two major reservoirs.

Foziling Town: Foziling Town is a long-renowned and famous historic town. The “Asia’s No.1 Dam” stands majestically within its territory, and Anhui Yingjia Group, the top taxpayer in Lu’an City and one of China’s top 20 liquor industry companies, is also located here. The town lies in the southwest of Huoshan County, 15 kilometers from the county seat, covering a total area of 127 square kilometers. It governs 6 administrative villages, 1 subdistrict, and 161 villager groups, with a population of 22,000. It is a typical mountainous and reservoir area town.
