The former residence of Zhu Guangqian is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Zhu Guangqian is located in the western part of Tongcheng High School. It originally consisted of three stone-structured rooms with double-sloped roofs and blue brick walls. During the War of Resistance against Japan, Zhu Guangqian, the master of aesthetics, once lived here.

Zhu Guangqian (1897–1986) was one of China’s most renowned contemporary aestheticians, as well as a celebrated literary theorist, philosopher, translator, and educator, enjoying high international acclaim. Mr. Zhu had an extensive knowledge of both Eastern and Western cultures, profound expertise, and particularly distinguished himself through his noble character, lofty moral integrity, and rigorous academic approach, setting a shining example of a true scholar. He served as a member of the Second, Third, and Fourth National Committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a standing committee member of the Sixth CPPCC, honorary president of the Chinese Society for Aesthetics, and a member or advisor to the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the China Writers Association, and the Chinese Association for Foreign Literature. He was also a first-class professor at Peking University. Over 7 million words of his writings have been compiled into the magnificent 20-volume Complete Works of Zhu Guangqian, published by Anhui Publishing House.

Zhu Guangqian (1897–1986), pen name Mengshi, was a native of Tongcheng County. His father, Zhu Zixiang, was a rural private school teacher with considerable learning. In his youth, Zhu Guangqian studied at a private school under his father’s supervision. At the age of 15, he attended junior high school, and half a year later, he advanced to Tongcheng High School. There, he abandoned contemporary writing styles in favor of classical Chinese literature, developing a strong interest in traditional Chinese poetry under the influence of his Chinese literature teacher, Pan Jiye. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the Chinese Department of the free Wuchang Advanced Normal School.
