Tomb of Dai Mingshi

The Tomb of Dai Mingshi is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Tomb of Dai Mingshi is located on a southern hillside in Qingshuitang Village, Kongcheng Town. The tomb site covers an area of 120 square meters. In front of the tomb there is a three-tiered worship platform, and the stone-built burial chamber is about 1.5 meters high. The tomb mound is built with slab stones, and in front of it stands a stele inscribed with “Tomb of Dai Mingshi.” The burial site is surrounded by pine and cypress trees. It is a key cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

Dai Mingshi (1653–1713), styled Tianyou, also known as He Fu, with the pseudonym Nanshan and the alias You’an, was a native of Tongcheng. He became a Jinshi (presented scholar) in the 48th year of the Kangxi reign (1709), ranking second in the palace examination (commonly known as Bangyan), and was appointed as a Hanlin Academy editor. Dai Mingshi devoted himself to historical research and prose writing. He authored the Nanshan Collection. He was an important founder of the Tongcheng School. In the 50th year of the Kangxi reign (1711), Dai Mingshi was imprisoned due to his work Nanshan Collection. In February of the 52nd year (1713), he was executed at the age of 61. This case implicated hundreds of people and became one of the most famous literary inquisitions of the Qing Dynasty—the Nanshan Collection Case.

The earliest ancestors of Dai Mingshi migrated from Wuyuan to Tongcheng in the early years of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty. By the time of Dai Mingshi, twelve generations had passed. Qingshuitang Village: Located on the northwest side of Kongcheng Town, Qingshuitang Village is a provincial model village for new rural construction. The total area of the village is 5.32 square kilometers, including 4,720 mu of arable land, 1,300 mu of forest, 800 mu of water surface, and 700 mu of mountainous land. It governs 41 villager groups, with over 900 households and a total population of approximately 3,880.
