Lianhe Liwei Manor

Lianhe Liwei Manor, dating back to the Qing Dynasty. It is located in Liwei Village Group, Lianhe Village, Fangang Town, Tongcheng City. The manor is nearly circular, surrounded by flat terrain, with a water-retaining moat about 5–8 meters wide encircling it. The inner wall of the moat is built from stone slabs starting from the bottom, and the only entrance to the manor is via a stone bridge over the moat. The bridge is 1 meter wide, with long stone slabs serving as the deck. At the bridgehead inside the manor is a flush-gable gate tower, with thick blue bricks laid in staggered courses to form load-bearing walls. The base of the eaves wall is constructed from stone slabs starting from the bottom of the moat. On the south side of the manor, near the moat, there is an ancient well with a plain, unadorned well curb made of coarse stone. About 20 meters north of the well stands an ancestral hall. The building features a combined post-and-lintel and raised-beam wooden frame, with a double-sloped roof covered in small tiles, enclosed by blue bricks, and devoid of elaborate ornamentation, presenting a simple and elegant style. Behind the ancestral hall are traditional residences, some constructed with a combination of timber frames and brick walls using through-tenon columns, others with rammed earth walls bearing the load, and some with earthen adobe partitions.

The water-retaining moat surrounding Lianhe Liwei Manor served a defensive function, while the buildings within the manor were relatively refined. Similar manors have been discovered in Fangang, Qingcao, and Xindu towns of Tongcheng, but the Lianhe Liwei Manor is better preserved and contains relatively rich historical information. As a representative of such manor architecture, it is typical and serves as important physical evidence for the study of manor economies, ancient architecture, and the history and culture of Tongcheng.
